Megyn Kelly: Surprising Things You Probably Didn’t Know About This Talk Show Host

Megyn Kelly isn’t exactly having a smooth transition over at NBC. The former Fox News anchor left the conservative network for NBC, much to the annoyance of many fans and foes — and right now, it looks like that may not have been the best move. The first week of Kelly’s new morning show, Megyn Kelly Today, was buried under weak ratings and the former corporate defense attorney’s awkward attempts to connect with her guests.

The Illinois native is known for her hard-hitting political commentary, so she stumbled quite a bit when joking with the cast of Will & Grace and even more so when she thought it was wise to ask the legendary Jane Fonda about her cosmetic surgery. Perhaps NBC should let the 46-year-old return to the hard news and politics and leave the light-hearted stuff for others with a better grasp on it.

However, since Trump’s election, it seems like Kelly really wants to revamp her career (and the way politics is going right now, we can’t say that we blame her), But, outside of her hypervisible career, who is Megyn Kelly? Here are 15 surprising things you didn’t know about the talk show host.

1. As a teen, Kelly wasn’t all that ambitious

Kelly was a cheerleader all throughout high school. After her father passed away from a heart attack when she was 15, she kind of floundered.

She told Katie Couric last year that she didn’t have much ambition during that time.

2. She wanted to be a cowgirl

Growing up, Kelly desperately wanted to be a cowgirl, but she just couldn’t get a handle on the training.

4. Brit Hume was instrumental in getting Kelly a meeting a Fox News

Before taking Fox News by storm, Kelly was a general assignment reporter at or WJLA in Washington, D.C. That’s where she met Brit Hume, who was working for ABC News as a reporter and chief White House correspondent.

Hume helped get Kelly a meeting with former Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.

5. Kelly says she was sexually harassed and nearly assaulted by Roger Ailes

In her New York Times best-selling memoir Settle for More, Kelly says that Ailes began harassing her in 2005, claiming that he would help her career in return for sexual favors. The harassment reached a boiling point months later when Kelly says Ailes tried to kiss her.

After shoving him off her and reporting his behavior to her supervisor, the harassment stopped.

6. The talk show host left Fox partly because of her young children

Kelly has three young children under the age of 10 with her novelist husband, Douglas Brunt. Kelly wanted to leave Fox News so that she could be home once her children Yardley, Thatcher, and Edward returned from school.

9. Her favorite movie is pretty magical

The journalist adores Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, the 1971 original film starring Gene Kelly and she refuses to watch the Johnny Depp remake — we can’t say that we blame her.

10. She doesn’t have time to work out

Though her NBC schedule might allow time for Kelly to get back in the gym, in 2012, she told PEOPLE, “Some things are worth the fat and calories, although I have to watch it like a hawk. I used to be able to work out, but these days there is literally no time.”

Instead, the NBC anchor chooses to snack smartly.

11. Kelly is pretty boss at video games

Kelly’s husband thinks she’s the best Ms. Pac-Man player in the history of the game. He thinks there still may be some arcades in Albany and Syracuse with machines that have the initials MMK on the leaderboard.

12. She’s fashion forward

Kelly’s super professional when it comes to her career wardrobe, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t adore fashion. The mother of three has been invited by Anna Wintour to the Met Gala for the past two years. In 2016. she attended wearing Badgley Mischka, and this year, she was sheathed in Altuzarra.
